Rebecca Stirm represents Belize at SICA Achievement Expo in El Salvador


The Central American Integration System (SICA) held  an Achievement Expo  in El Salvador where they reported on the several successful projects made possible through funding from the Republic of China, Taiwan .  Among those achievements was the EMPRENDE Fund where  owners of small business in Central America were given seed capital to develop, improve or expand their business. Recipients of the seed capital  displayed their products to Tsai Ing-wen , president of Taiwan.Representing Belize was Rebecca Stirm, fashion designer and owner of Rebecca Stirm Clothing.

ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IN BELIZE

BELTRAIDE has collaborated with the Centre for the Promotion of Micro and Small Enterprises (CENPROYMPE) and the Embassy of Taiwan (China) in executing a project in Belize namely, “Integral Development of Entrepreneurship for Central America and Dominican Republic”. The purpose of the project is to promote and strengthen entrepreneurship in Belize by generating, accelerating and strengthening emerging businesses in the segment of micro, small and medium enterprises. In 2013, seventeen entrepreneurs benefited from the program and have accessed seed capital for the growth of their businesses in terms of purchasing raw material, machinery and promotional material. The program is geared towards empowering entrepreneurs and boosting their operation for development and success.

Workshops have started yesterday April 14, 2014,  with a platform to assist with capacity building and the molding of their business plan. This is done in an effort to access seed capital to fund their business.

Integral Development of Entrepreneurship in Central America and Dominica Republic


The  Belize Trade  and  Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) in collaboration with the Regional Center  for  Promotion of  Micro  and Small Enterprises  (CENPROMYPE), with the  support of  the  Government of  Taiwan and Colombia, presented awards to the recipients of the Integral  Development Program  of  Entrepreneurship in  Central  America  and Dominican Republic ,on Tuesday November 26, 2013, at the Belize Biltmore Plaza.

This  event  takes  place  in  the  framework of  the  implementation of  the  project “Integral  Development Program  of  Entrepreneurship in  Central  America  and Dominican Republic”, which  is facilitated by  CENPROMYPE in  coordination with BELTRAIDE. The purpose   of the   project was to   promote and strengthen entrepreneurship in the   region with the   aim of   establishing, developing, and strengthening MSME’s in the entire country of Belize.

 

The project has four components, including:

•             Building awareness and support to national policies for entrepreneurship and design of a regional strategy;

•             Providing grant funding for qualified MSME’s;

•             Establishing   a network, to link MSMEs in   Central   America   and   the

Dominican Republic, and increase value added products/ services;

•             Engaging in knowledge management and capacity building of MSME’s.

Workshop on Women’s Micro-sized Enterprises Start-up and Credit Facilities

Since the late 1960s, the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has been offering international assistance through technical cooperation programs, while establishing friendly relations with countries in Africa, the Middle East, Central and South America, East Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

In the 1980s, as a result of Taiwan considerable economic achievements and a favorable international trade balance, Taiwan intensified its lending and cooperation programs.  Over the past few decades, the Committee of International Technical Cooperation (CITC) and the International Economic Cooperation Development Fund (IECDF) accumulated invaluable experiences as they demonstrated solid achievements in bilateral cooperation.

As the cooperative ventures became more complex and diverse, and the international community began to look to Taiwan for more cooperation, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF) was founded in 1996 to consolidate and manage these initiatives.  This marked a new stage in Taiwan’s international cooperation program.
