The Central American Integration System (SICA) held an Achievement Expo in El Salvador where they reported on the several successful projects made possible through funding from the Republic of China, Taiwan . Among those achievements was the EMPRENDE Fund where owners of small business in Central America were given seed capital to develop, improve or expand their business. Recipients of the seed capital displayed their products to Tsai Ing-wen , president of Taiwan.Representing Belize was Rebecca Stirm, fashion designer and owner of Rebecca Stirm Clothing.
Many business people achieve their greatest successes in unexpected areas. They begin a business and then they find that it isn’t as profitable as they had anticipated, so they change direction, using their experience and their momentum, and strike pay dirt in something else.

TheBelize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), in partnership with the University of Belize, The Institute for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ITVET), the Development Finance Corporation (DFC), The Belize City Council, with the kind assistance from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), and the Organization of American States (OAS), is pleased to announce the launch of Belize’s first Small Business Development Centre. The launch will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Radisson Fort George Hotel, Cahal Pech Room, at 2:00p.m. Present at the Launch will be various local officials and stakeholders and representatives from UTSA and OAS, who are integral partners in this initiative.
BELTRAIDE engaged in extensive research to effectively evaluate the success of the SBDC model in United States of America, Mexico and Central America, and restructured the model to make it applicable to Belize. Over the past months, multiple trainings were conducted with several stakeholders. This initiative strengthened the readiness of Belize in establishing the center. SBDC Belize will offer the necessary business support to MSMEs, facilitating their competitiveness, export readiness; henceforth, assisting them to develop their competences.
