CARIBBEAN EXPORT SUPPORTS REGIONAL DESIGNERS TO
SHOWCASE AT DOMINICANA MODA 2013

 

Bridgetown, Barbados, October 14, 2013. The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) is pleased to announce that following the recent call for designers, seven designers have been selected to be supported to attend Dominicana Moda (DM2013) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on October 21-26, 2013.

The seven fashion design firms are; ILashan Apparel & Handmade Jewelry from The Bahamas; the Andrew Harris Collection of Barbados; Odanis Valdez Polonia from the Dominican Republic; MARSAE of Guyana; Mag Art from Haiti; Patwa Apparel Ltd from Jamaica and MEILING Inc. from Trinidad and Tobago.

 

The selection panel included the Artistic Director of Salon de la Fama SRL; Mr. Socrates Mckinney, the Deputy Director of Escuela Chavon (affiliated with Parsons School of Design),   Mr. Adolfo Lucero and Mrs. Ileana Tejada from Caribbean Export.  The team reviewed 27 applications from across the region and scored them based on criteria such as completeness of application, availability of collections that will be showcased, experience and potentiality to export their talent in an international level.

Request for Proposals – Consultancy for Regional Strategy and Implementation Plan

CONSULTANCY: THE DEVELOPMENT OF A REGIONAL STRATEGY AND IMPLEMENTATION PLAN FOR THE EFFECTIVE PROMOTION OF INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN CARIFORUM

Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export), in collaboration with the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA), invites proposals from qualified contractors to provide consultancy services for the Development of a Regional Strategy and Implementation Plan for the Effective Promotion of Investment Opportunities within CARIFORUM. Contractors are invited to submit a detailed technical proposal that demonstrates their capacity to undertake the assignment and a financial proposal.

REGIONAL INVESTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD 2013

CARIBBEAN EXPORT AND CAIPA LAUNCH THE
REGIONAL INVESTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD 2013

Bridgetown, Barbados, September 4, 2013.  Caribbean Export Development Agency, in collaboration with the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion agencies (CAIPA), is pleased to announce the launch of the first Regional Investor of the Year Award for the members of CAIPA. Member countries include: Antigua   and   Barbuda,   Bahamas,   Barbados,   Belize, the Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and the Turks & Caicos Islands.

 

A regional investor is being defined as an investor into one or more of the aforementioned territories in the region. The Regional Investor of the Year Award has been developed to recognize and promote the contribution of both local investors within the region and foreign investors to the region. Their contributions include the creation of new jobs, adherence to high standards of corporate social responsibility, capital spending and largely fiscal support to economies through payment of corporate taxes, inter alia.

Break Point

Break Point seeks to empower Caribbean businesses to take on European markets and introduces them to alternative funding sources such as private investors in the form of venture capitalists and Angel investors. It highlights the journey of dedicated regional businesses and entrepreneurs as they vie to become one of the 12 finalists who will travel to London to make their final pitches to a panel of investors, venture capitalists and distributors.

In April 2012, CARIFORUM firms and entrepreneurs throughout the 15 CARIFORUM Member States had the opportunity to participate in Break Point by first submitting a 2-3 minute video pitch, along with a 1 page executive summary of their business plan and a short application form to help the Agency capture some pertinent company data.

Regional Investment Promotion Stakeholders’ Forum

Bridgetown, Barbados, July 17, 2013.  Caribbean Export Development Agency, in collaboration with the Regional Investment Promotion Steering Committee (a think tank that was set up by Caribbean Export in 2012 to deliberate on matters related to investment promotion),  convened a  Regional Investment Promotion Stakeholders’ Forum, which was held at the Radisson Aquatica Resort in Barbados on July 11-12, 2013. The event saw participation from 35 representatives from the 15 CARIFORUM member states including the investment promotion agencies and policymakers within the Ministries with responsibility for investment attraction.

 

The Forum sought to focus attention on the development of a Regional Investment Promotion Strategy (RIPS) and Implementation Plan. The Strategy will seek to position the Caribbean as an ideal location for investment.
