On Friday, November 9th 2018, The Belize Training and Employment Centre (BTEC), a unit of BELTRAIDE completed a 2 week training for the staff of Mahogany Bay Village in San Pedro. The training encompassed a week of soft skills which covered professionalism, work ethic, communication skills and one week of customer service which focused on handling customer complaints , telephone etiquette and more!

BELTRAIDE, through its technical unit, EXPORTBelize hosted a“National Cluster Workshop” as part of the “Building Institutional Capacity for Strengthening Business Clusters” project implemented through financial support from Compete Caribbean.
The National Workshop, held on February 16th 2018 in Belize City, aimed to provide participants with insight into Compete Caribbean initiatives with the purpose of encouraging collaborative actions to improve the competitiveness of a sector or industry as well as to promote cross-sectoral linkages. The workshop sought to provide a framework to facilitating business clusters in Belize, consolidate the mapping of Business Support Organizations (BSOs), identify and assess potential and existing clusters and leverage resources of other BSO’s for cluster promotion.
The Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce, through the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) in collaboration with Connect Americas and the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA), is launching the Belize Investment Portfolio Campaign. The campaign is expected to foster the development of a national portfolio to fast-track investment generation efforts, both local and foreign, through targeted matchmaking of pre-packaged investment concepts and projects.
Through the advancement of this campaign, BelizeINVEST, a unit of BELTRAIDE, mandated to serve as Belize’s National Investment Promotion Agency (IPA), expects to further substantiate investment concepts submitted by key public sector Government Ministries and stakeholders into actionable business cases aligned with national development priorities.
Accordingly, a public sector focal point sensitization session was held on November 2nd, 2016 at the Central Information Technology Office (CITO) Training Room in presenting the e-Portal developed to capture investment concepts to advance the investment generation endeavor. There were over fifteen (15) representatives crossing Government Ministries and Departments.
The official launch of the Belize Investment Portfolio Campaign will be held on November 25th, 2016 at the Cahal Pech Room of Radisson Fort George, Hotel and Marina commencing at 9:00 am.
U.S. Embassy Belmopan Announces Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) Professional Fellows Program to Support Entrepreneurs throughout Latin America and the Caribbean

The Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) Professional Fellows Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, is looking for 250 young entrepreneurs from Latin America and the Caribbean to bring to the United States for business and social entrepreneurship training in October and November 2016. YLAI Professional Fellows will become part of the larger YLAI Network, an online space to obtain resources and make regional connections necessary to foster positive change in their local communities. 2 U.S. EMBASSY Belmopan, Belize Office of Public Affairs
The U.S. program includes the following components:
- Opening Program in Texas and Closing Summit in Washington, D.C. featuring workshops, breakout sessions, and keynote speakers;
- Four-week individualized fellowship with counterpart companies or organizations in cities around the U.S. The participants will engage in skills-building workshops, develop or refine their own strategic plan, and participate in day-to-day operations at U.S. organizations;
- Professional development activities including entrepreneurship training and interaction with experts; and
- Ongoing support before, during, and after the YLAI Fellowship through networking, mentorship, and investment opportunities.
The program is open to entrepreneurs who meet the following criteria:
- Are between the ages of 21 and 35;
- Are a resident of Belize.
- Are eligible to receive a U.S. J-1 visa;
- Have at least 2 years of entrepreneurial/leadership experience, preferably with a startup business or social venture;
- Are proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
