BELTRAIDE and Compete Caribbean hosts National Cluster Workshop


BELTRAIDE, through its technical unit, EXPORTBelize  hosted a“National Cluster Workshop”   as part of the “Building Institutional Capacity for Strengthening Business Clusters” project implemented through financial support from Compete Caribbean.

The National Workshop, held on February 16th 2018 in Belize City, aimed to provide participants with insight into Compete Caribbean initiatives with the purpose of encouraging collaborative actions to improve the competitiveness of a sector or industry as well as to promote cross-sectoral linkages.  The workshop sought to provide a  framework to facilitating business clusters in Belize, consolidate the mapping of Business Support Organizations (BSOs), identify and assess potential and existing clusters and leverage resources of other BSO’s for cluster promotion.

EXPORTBelize , Beltraide, kick starts “EXPORTBelize Week”!


 
EXPORT Belize, a unit of Beltraide , kick starts ” EXPORTBelize Week” at the National Agriculture and Trade Show which was held on the 29th and 30th of April, 2017. Two of its clients were given the opportunity to showcase their products in an effort to increase local sales and to also build visibility and educate visitors on the services provided by EXPORTBelize.

 
This show saw hundreds of visitors from all over the country and hosted a variety of producers, businesses, and organizations who gathered to promote the services and products they offer. Games, live entertainment, raffle, give-aways, to name a few, were all activities in which these parties had in order to direct traffic to their booths.

EXPORTBelize also conducted secondary school visits to business students of Our Lady of Guadalupe High School in the city of Belmopan and Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in Benque Viejo del Carmen. The objective of such visits were to build awareness of the services provided by the unit and to encourage the students that it is never too early to start thinking about their career paths and should they want to venture into becoming an entrepreneur, competing locally and gradually exporting, they are aware of some necessary steps that must taken.

Entrepreneurship Convention 2016 (EntreCon)- Unlocking ICT Innovation In Belize


 

 International speakers and experts in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), along with members of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and entrepreneurs will meet at the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel in Belize City on Friday, 18th November to participate in the second annual National Entrepreneurship Convention, (ENTRECON).

Beltraide participates in Taipei Food Show


EXPORTBelize, a unit of Beltraide, participated in the 2016 Taipei International Food Show from June 22 – 25, 2016 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center in Taipei, Taiwan.   In addition to EXPORTBelize, two other Belizean companies also participated in the food show – L&R Liquors and Caribbean Premier Products.  Some of the products on display included pepper sauces, beer, rum and natural juices.

The Taipei Food Show featured buyers from over 100 countries passing through the show and having opportunities to sample food & beverages from over 36 national pavilions.  Exhibitions included fresh fruits & vegetables, preserved fruits and vegetables, poultry, seafood, meat & processed meats, edible oils, dairy products, organic and vegetarian foods, frozen prepared foods, canned food, baked food, biscuits, wine & liquor, coffee & tea, juice & soft drinks, condiments & confectionary and ice cream.

Belize was a part of the Central American pavilion which housed other countries in the region such as Honduras, Dominican Republic, Panama, El Salvador and Costa Rica. Funding for Belize’s participation in food show was through the support of the Central American Trade Office (CATO).

BELTRAIDE makes presentation at National Women’s Forum hosted by Women’s Department


On May 19th 2016,  Ms. Lejia Melanie Gideon, General Manager, Enterprise and Innovation Division, Beltraide,   presented to a roomful of women from all over the country on the  role of the Small Business  Development Centre (SBDCBelize), Beltraide, in  creating economic prosperity through entrepreneurial development, business innovation and competitiveness.

Ms. Gideon shared an inspiring analogy, describing the process of opening a business to being similar to that of childbirth. She shared that in the same way an expecting mother awaits the birth of her child with eager anticipation and most times,worry, a new business owner worries over the success of his or her business. She explained that just as how family and friends offer guidance with  the care of the new child, Business Advisors at SBDCBelize  assist  business owners to nurture and grow their businesses.

In her presentation, Ms Gideon encouraged the women to explore their potential to become entrepreneurs by becoming a client of SBDCBelize and partaking in their free business advising sessions and year-long workshops offered currently in all districts.   She also shared information on the work of the Belize Training and Employment Centre (BTEC), another unit of Beltraide, which provides  various industry-specific job preparedness trainings in areas such as: Business Process Out-Sourcing (BPO), Front Desk, Bartending, Waitstaff, Basics of Care-Giving and more.

She encouraged all women to take advantage of the opportunities offered to them by Beltraide and asked those interested to visit the offices or send an email guaranteeing that every query will be answered.

Beltraide, which operates within the portfolio of the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce, aims to  enable a dynamic business environment  for Belize’s socio-economic growth  and looks forwards to an ongoing partnership with the Women’s Department which continues to encourage the economic development and empowerment of women through various programmes and projects.

The forum was an all day event and included other presentations from representatives of Credit Unions, the Cooperative Department, the Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Technology and many others.
