It is estimated that MSMEs account for over 70% of main export crops and an even higher percentage of domestic food crops.  It is within this spectrum that the Government of Belize has strengthened its focus on supporting the development of the MSME Sector.

The provision of long term one-on-one assistance to SBDC clients is of priority to us.   You can receive assistance from a counselor at any point in your business operation.  The technical trainings and advisory services provide YOU, our valued SBDC client, with technical information at workshops, and ensured implementation through personal follow up advice from a counselor to answer any questions.

July 3, 2012 –The Fancy Food Show have been North America’s largest specialty food and beverage marketplace. Between the Winter Show in San Francisco and the Summer Show in New York City, the show is visited by 40,000 attendees from more than 80 countries to see 260,000 innovative specialty food products, such as confections, cheese, coffee, snacks, spices, ethnic, natural, organic and more (www.specialityfoods.com).

The Summer Fancy Food Show was held June 17-19th, in Washington, D.C. It was attended by every major food buying channel, influential members of the trade and consumer press and other related businesses. May Is World Trade Month

Washington — World Trade Month celebrates the benefits robust international trade partnerships bring to national and local economies.

U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson on May 2 issued a statement in honor of World Trade Month, which the United States marks annually with a series of state and local events across the country to promote U.S. trade relationships and provide resources to U.S. businesses seeking to export their goods and services around the world.

May has been recognized as World Trade Month since the 1920s, thanks to an effort led by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. World Trade Week, which falls in the third week of May, is recognized by presidential proclamation annually. Continue reading “May Is World Trade Month”

U.S. Supports Launch of Caribbean Small Business Development Centers Project

In a ceremony today at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Carmen Lomellin, U.S. Permanent Representative to the regional body, announced U.S. support for the launch of the “Caribbean Small Business Development Centers (SBDC)” expansion project, an initiative to promote the development of competitive, productive, and innovative small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Western Hemisphere.

The project will create a network of sustainable and successful small business assistance networks in Saint Lucia, Dominica, Belize, Jamaica, and Barbados. The newly created network of Caribbean small business development centers will eventually be linked with similar existing programs located throughout the United States, Mexico, Colombia, and Central America to share best practices, and to promote cooperation and support productivity and sustainable economic growth.
