BELTRAIDE and The Nature Conservancy hold Seaweed Cultivation Training in Little Water Caye


The Nature Conservancy, in partnership with  EXPORTBelize, a unit of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) held a Seaweed Cultivation Training from March 3rd – March 5th in Little Water Caye; which provided both a theory session along with hands on experience to fishermen in seaweed farming and cultivation. This initiative was one of many activities under a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) signed in November 2016. A key objective of this MOC is to support fisheries diversification through the development of a sustainable seaweed industry in Belize.

 

This three day training was facilitated by Placencia Producers Cooperative Society Limited, whose members have previously received intensive training and certification in seaweed cultivation. Ten participants from four fishing cooperatives along with a representative from EXPORTBelize and TNC were trained and received certificates.  The participants included representatives from Toledo Fishermen Association, Sarteneja Fishermen Association, Wabaffu Fishermen Association and Turneffe Seaweed Farmers. The training included seaweed cultivation techniques, farm building and designing, harvesting techniques and the drying process.

The Belize Training & Employment Centre (BTEC) Trains 60 persons in the Independence/ Placencia Area


 

The Belize Training and Employment Centre (BTEC), a unit of BELTRAIDE, one of the leading industry specific training centers in Belize, today held a certificate ceremony at the Independence High School in Independence Village.  Sixty participants received certificates in areas of Lifeguard training; Gardening and Landscaping; Hospitality and wait staff; Introduction to Bartending and Housekeeping and Janitorial services. The training was geared towards persons who are employed or seeking employment in the various fields.

Also at the event, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) was  signed between BELTRAIDE and the Independence High School (IHS) . The MOC entails BELTRAIDE doing more job – preparedness training of students and out of school residents in the area, while IHS will provide classrooms for such trainings and assist with recruitment of participants in the area. .The five different trainings took three weeks and were in held in both Placencia and Independence. Participants were from several different communities in the area.The gardening and landscaping class along with BELTRAIDE and the Ministry of Agriculture also handed over a garden they had prepared to the students of the Independence High School.

BTEC TRAININGS AIM TO PREPARE THE YOUNG FOR WORK AND HOW TO CARE FOR THE OLD


The Belize Training and Employment Centre (BTEC), a unit of Beltraide is currently conducting two (2) important training sessions designed with the young and elderly persons in mind. 

The first training is entitled: Creating a Stronger Path to Workforce Readiness. It targets senior high schools students, especially at risk young people, as well as recent graduates and aims to provide them with introductory job preparedness training in order to build their capacity to help them to develop the self-awareness and interpersonal “soft skills” needed to be successful in the job market.  The training will last for three weeks and is being held in collaboration between RESTORE Belize and BTEC.

Minister Panton delivers Keynote Address at Galen University Graduation


 

On Sunday, May 22nd, 2016, Galen University graduated ninety-nine students at its 13th Commencement Exercises held at the Muffles College Auditorium in Orange Walk Town.

Graduates received degreesin various fields including Anthropology, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, Accounting and Business Administration.

Hon. Tracy Taegar- Panton, Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade & Commerce, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the emerging socio-economic needs and challenges in the public and private sectors and how  Belizeans can combine their skills, talents and experiences to shape a new future.  The minister stressed the importance of diversifying our economic base using technology, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship as well as maintaining open dialogue to foster co-ordination and objectivity on matters of national importance.

BTEC completes its Job Preparedness BPO Training Programme


The Belize Training and Employment Centre (BTEC), a unit of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), today, completed its “Job Preparedness BPO Training”  which provided participants with an introduction to customer service, telephone etiquette, handling customer complaints, rapport building, sales and other skills to make them better equipped for employment in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Industry.

To celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the eighteen (18) successful participants, the Belize Training and Employment Centre held a certificate ceremony at The Belize Training and Employment Centre, Enterprise Training Room on May 5th 2016.

 

Guest Speaker for the event was Mr. Hero Balani, Acting Manager BelizeInvest, Investment Generation, Beltraide,  who gave  participants an insightful overview of Belize’s growing potential in the progressing BPO Industry.
