October 10th, 2012– Throughout the course of the past three months, Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) have been facilitating an intensive consultancy, geared towards the creation of a national strategy to develop Medical Tourism in Belize. To reiterate, component two (2) of BELTRAIDE’s Compete Caribbean Project, required the identification of two priority sectors for investment. One of the identified priority sectors was Medical Tourism, and there is certainly great potential for this industry to contribute to economic development through creation of employment, whilst contributing to our Gross Domestic Product.
BELTRAIDE conducted a four day outreach trip at the Orange Walk and Corozal districts. The workshop took place on September 28th to October 1st. The Micro, Small, and Medium (MSMEs) Unit of BELTRAIDE, met with the Banquitas House of Culture, Orange Walk.
Pictures were taken of 16 groups to be included in the upcoming publication “Creative Industry Catalog”. Meetings were held with a few MSMEs to discuss their business plans and to discuss other advisory factors (product costing, income tax payments, etc). Additionally, a bookkeeping training was held. 15 MSMEs participated and benefited from the capacity building. A board development training for 8 participants was incorporated throughout the 4 day mission. Further, pictures of 14 groups/individuals for the creative industry catalog was undertaken, at Corozal House of Culture.
