BELTRAIDE PARTICIPATES IN UB CAREER FAIR AND BCCI OPEN DAY

The Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (Beltraide) participated in two business events last week as part of its outreach programme to keep Belizeans informed about its  main role in trade and investment promotion and facilitation.

The first event was the Business Career and Opportunities Fair held on Thursday, 10th March at the University of Belize Business  Campus in Belize City. The event was the first of its kind and was organized by the UB Student Government  to allow students in their last year of studies to make inquiries about career opportunities at the participating businesses.

Beltraide also participated in the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry  (BCCI) Open Day held on Friday, 11th March at the Sacred Heart College auditorium in San Ignacio. Over 800 students from high schools in San Ignacio and Santa Elena attended the event, which aimed to create greater awareness on BCCI’s role and functions.

Both events offered BELTRAIDE the opportunity to inform numerous business students on the role of the organization and its various units.

BELTRAIDE is a statutory body  of the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce. It is  headquartered at No. 14 Orchid Garden Street in Belmopan and its  mission is to enhance Belize’s prosperity by fostering investment confidence, entrepreneurship, business growth and innovation.

United Kingdom Buying Shrimp in Belize!

Challenged by an unforeseen viral disease which severely impacted the Belize shrimp industry, the cluster still managed to successfully supply UK based multinational retailer Marks and Spencer as well as the second largest supermarket chain in the UK, Sainbury’s, with 1.1 million pounds of shrimp in 2015.

Under the Sainsbury agreement, the shrimp is repackaged under its premium brand and sold exclusively by the chain as it has agreed not to source shrimp from any other supplier under its brand. This has resulted in a higher than projected price premium for exports to these markets.
