Under our Inclusive Linkage in Central America and Dominican Republic Project, a joint agenda for Tourism Development at the Border zone Belize-Guatemala was recently formulated after intense consultations with public and private stakeholders from Belize and Guatemala. The purpose of the joint agenda is to promote the tourism development in the border zone which includes San Antonio, San Ignacio/Santa Elena, San Jose Succotz, Benque Viejo, Melchor de Mencos and Flores Peten through capacity building and the establishment of strategic alliances among stakeholders to generate sustainable development at the border zone. February 14th, 2013– On January 18, 2013, thirty-three members of the public and private sectors in Belize and Guatemala, along with representatives from the local associations and communities in the border area, were integrated into the Bi-national Tourism Working Group Belize-Guatemala Border Zone. This group function is to organize dialogue and inter-sectoral coordination and to promote and include participation of key stakeholders in the management of local development through sustainable tourism. As a result of the Market Access Regional Program, implemented through the Regional Centre for the Promotion of Micro and Small Enterprises in Central America and the Dominican Republic (CENPROMYPE) and the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), the toolkit “Exporting to Central America and the Dominican Republic” will be launched on November 6th, 2012 from 8:30am – 12:00pm, at Radisson Fort George Hotel & Marina. This program is funded by SICA Spain through the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID).
This initiative seeks to promote regional trade as an opportunity to promote economic development so that the market is consolidated as a promotional space, to increase interdependence and opportunities for stakeholders in the region, including, governments, businesses and workers.
The recent signing of the Association Agreement between Central America and the European Union generates a lot of expectations, enhancing the opportunity to finalize negotiations, leading to the establishment of the Customs Union for the region. The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, is partnering with Kraft Foods on a project that will significantly boost exports of organic cocoa from Belize by connecting small farmers in rural Mayan communities to global supply chains. The project is funded by a grant with a total value of just over US$1 million, provided by the MIF, Kraft Foods, and the Toledo Cacao Growers Association (TCGA).

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is seeking participants for the village Arts & Craft Expo 2012. The Expo will draw all small producers to one location where they can exhibit their products to a variety of buyers and open a new and direct way of marketing to various channels. They will be accepting 10 – 13 participants from each district.
The show will be held at the Princess Hotel & Casino on May 12th 2012 from 9am to 4pm.Application deadline is May 5th 2012.

Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (Beltraide) in collaboration with the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) under the FINPYME Program hosted a technical assistance workshop entitled “Logistics for Small & Medium Enterprises” at the Belize Chamber of Commerce Conference Room on February 29th to March 1st 2012. IIC has developed the FINPYME Program (Innovative Financing for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)) as a diagnostic tool for SMEs; intended to help them improve their competiveness and facilitate their access to potential sources of financing.
