The Embassy of Mexico to Belize in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development of Quintana Roo and COPARMEX Quintana Roo, hosted the Business E-Rountable Mexico-Belize 2021 as this year’s first bilateral virtual trade mission. The event was held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 9:00 am with several virtual Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings held with companies from the state of Quintana Roo across various sectors including: Software Development, Transportation and Tourism Services, Logistics and Customs Services, Supply Solutions, Education, Business Consultancy, Construction and Renewable Energy.

Dr. Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director of Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) delivered remarks on behalf of the Government of Belize (GOB) including a panel presentation as a part of the dialogue on Doing Business in Belize with a focus on the bilateral trade and investment relationship between Belize and Mexico. The Ambassador of Mexico to Belize, H.E. Martha Zamarripa Rivas, also facilitated dialogue between the stakeholders and private sector enterprises present in seeking to boost commercial ties between the neighboring state of Quintana Roo and Belize supporting post-pandemic recovery efforts.

Key areas of interest noted in the meeting included advancing the negotiations of a Partial Scope Agreement (PSA) with Mexico for increased bilateral trade, as well as several investment opportunities in Tourism, Agribusiness, the Blue Economy and Services leveraging Belize as a springboard for Mexican companies to the Caribbean market. Facilitating the meeting and roundtable dialogue were also the Minister of Economic Development of Quintana Roo, Mrs. Rosa Elena Lozano; the President of COPARMEX Quintana Roo, Mr. Sergio León; Mr. Dyon Elliot from the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI); among other public and private sector stakeholders from Belize and Quintana Roo, Mexico.
