Belize Export Diversification Project


In its continued effort to provide relevant and high-quality services to its clients, EXPORTBelize, a unit of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), seeks ways to enhance the expertise and capacity of its advisors. In light of this, technical officers from BELTRAIDE and the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry participated in virtual trainings geared at enhancing their export knowledge and capacities through the initiative: “Belize Export Diversification Project; Building the Capacity of BELTRAIDE to implement activities under the National Export Strategy”. This project is being sponsored by the Commonwealth Secretariat and offers technical assistance focused on strengthening the advisory capacity to support the development and competitiveness of exporting MSMEs.

The training program included virtual in-class sessions, as well as team work to address Case Studies and exercises that presented real-life scenarios faced by exporters and potential exporters.  Areas covered included modules on

  1. Belize and the World of Exports,
  2. Identifying Market Opportunities,
  3. Assessing Enterprise Export Capacity
  4. Export Product Development,
  5. Shipments and Related Logistics,
  6. Export Pricing, Quotations, Formal Offers, Methods of Payments and Financing,
  7. Export Marketing Management and
  8. Export Business Plans

The final module includes an action plan that allows participants to implement actions based on learning during the training program. It is expected that these actions will be implemented over the next 6 months to one year.

EXPORTBelize, a unit of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), serves as Belize’s national trade promotion agency, providing one-on-one advising and business support to enterprises seeking to export their goods and services. Simultaneously, EXPORTBelize collaborates closely with local, regional and international public and private stakeholders to enhance the trade ecosystem by implementing related activities to foster the growth and development of Belize’s export sector.

The Embassy of Mexico to Belize in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development of Quintana Roo and COPARMEX Quintana Roo, hosted the Business E-Rountable Mexico-Belize 2021 as this year’s first bilateral virtual trade mission. The event was held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 9:00 am with several virtual Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings held with companies from the state of Quintana Roo across various sectors including: Software Development, Transportation and Tourism Services, Logistics and Customs Services, Supply Solutions, Education, Business Consultancy, Construction and Renewable Energy.
