The Government of Belize (GOB) through the Ministry responsible for Investment, Trade and Commerce, the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) and the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) launched the Belize National Investment Policy and Strategy (NIPS) project on Monday December 2nd, 2019 at the Best Western Plus Belize Biltmore Plaza – Toucan Hall.

The Belize National Investment Policy and Strategy seeks to establish a national framework that will guide both domestic and foreign investments. The primary objective of the NIPS is to determine with greater certainty and predictability the national direction toward economic development and how citizens can participate in and benefit from this process through investments. The project also seeks to further increase confidence in Belize’s investment climate, increase Belize’s competitiveness as a viable investment destination, encourage economic activities across the priority sectors, sustain job creation and employment, while also diversifying investment opportunities for citizens. Furthermore, the project aims to simplify the ease of doing business in Belize, while empowering a more robust business sector through continued public-private collaboration.

Ultimately, the National Investment Policy and Strategy will further support the realization of Belize’s National Horizon 2030 Vision and Belize’s medium-term Growth and Sustainable Development Strategy (GSDS) 2016-2019 specifically targeting and supporting Critical Success Factor (CSF-1): Optimal National Income and Investment.

The event culminated in a cross section of public and private sector stakeholders who remain vital to the project’s success. The Keynote Address at the launch was delivered by the Hon. Tracy Taegar Panton, Minister of Investment, Trade and Commerce, with Remarks by Mr. Lennox Forte, Director of Regional Development at the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF), Belize’s key supporting partner for the Project’s implementation. Members of the head table also included Dr. Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director of BELTRAIDE as the executing agency for the project, Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Comerce, and Mr. Ishmael Quiroz, Executive Director of the Economic Development Council (EDC).
