As part of its efforts to increase trade and investment linkages between Indonesia and Latin America and the Caribbean, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted its first Indonesia Latin America and the Caribbean (INA – LAC) Business Forum held in Tangerang, Indonesia, on October 14th – 15th, 2019. The event consisted of more than two-hundred representatives from both regions who convened to discuss salient issues, such as geographical distance, and recommendations affecting the level of trade and investment between Indonesia and the LAC region. Potential areas of trade and investment were also discussed via establishment of cooperation agreements and/or trade agreements and B2B meetings between participants. The event’s agenda consisted of panel discussions, business matchmaking sessions and a site visit to a paper mill, SINAR MAS Group.
The Government of Indonesia also hosted its 34th Trade Expo Indonesia from October 16th – 20th, 2019; a strategic platform for investors, buyers and sellers across various regions seeking to explore trade and investment opportunities. Latin America and the Caribbean pose significant opportunities for Indonesian companies seeking to internationalize in expanding its target market to Europe and North America via various preferential trade and investment agreements. It is projected that Indonesian companies will invest in excess of five (5) billion USD across various industries in the near future.
In further identifying vast opportunities that exist in Indonesia in industries such as Agri-business & Agro-processing and Light Manufacturing, Belize was represented by the Honorary Consul of Indonesia to Belize by Mrs. Diana Fuller as well as Fultec Systems Limited by Mr. Dean Fuller and the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) by Ms. Lianne Torres.
