BELTRAIDE HANDS OVER NEW BUILDING TO UB


The Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) , officially handed over a new security and maintenance facility to the University of Belize (U.B.).

Hon. Tracy Taegar-Panton, Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce with responsibility for BELTRAIDE, handed over the keys to the new building to Mr. Alan Slusher, President of the University of Belize  during a brief ceremony held this morning at the U.B.’s Faculty of Management and Social Sciences Campus in Belize City.

The L-Shaped building is approximately 2,000 sq. ft. and was built on a 36” x 14” reinforced concrete strip footing raised 24” above grade level with 6” reinforced core filled blocks. The walls comprise of 2” x 4” timber-frame cladded on the outside with construction latte paper and ¾” timber resembling plycem known  as cempestre plycem.  The inner walls are also timber-frame cladded with ½”drywall. The same applies for the ceiling. The roof comprise mainly of 2”x 6” rafters secured with hurricane clips and straps and cladded with red galvalume roofing.

The building is comprised of two sections – one for the U.B. Security Staff and the other for the U.B. Maintenance Department.  Each section comprises of an open office space, a private office and restrooms for each area.  The building is valued at approximately $60,000 Belize dollars and was built by Contractor Sergio Luna.

The facility is a part of a development agreement between BELTRAIDE and the University of Belize that was signed on September 17th, 2015 which entails the construction of the Belize Enterprise and Innovation Institute (BEI2), which will be located on the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences U.B. Belize City Campus. BEI2 will house two of BELTRAIDE’s technical units: SBDCBelize and EXPORTBelize and is designed to nurture entrepreneurship and innovation and strengthen Belize’s enterprise competitiveness.

The University of Belize and BELTRAIDE continues to foster a very productive and mutually beneficial relationship for the development of Belize!

 

 

 

 

 

Belize’s First Hilton World-Wide



Another success story for the BelizeINVEST team at BELTRAIDE today whose key objective is to  build relationships and maximize investment opportunities as Belize’s national investment promotion agency under the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce. The BelizeINVEST team was one of the driving forces behind the linkage of the Mahogany Bay Village to the Curio Collection by Hilton in San Pedro, Belize.

Present at the announcement today was Hon. Tracy Taegar – Panton Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce with responsibility for BELTRAIDE. She hailed this as a proud moment for Belize and welcomed the new partners to Belize, the Hilton brand! She went on to congratulate all those who worked together to make this partnership possible and extended the commitment of both the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation as well as the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce to do all they can to support this investment and all new investments in Belize’s thriving Tourism industry!

BELTRAIDE holds Trade Clinic for entrepreneurs in Independence!


 

A group of entrepreneurs from Dangriga and surrounding villages had the opportunity to attend an information session to assist them in becoming more competitive. The Trade Clinic was held at the Independence High School Conference Room on 31st May 2016.

The Trade Clinic is the second session organized by EXPORTBelize, a unit of  the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) , with the aim to sensitize members of the private sector across Belize on regulations, requirements, export procedures and documentations   and opportunities that exist under trade agreements in order to do business in the local and international market.

The Trade Clinic included presentations from local partners including the Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS), the Belize Agriculture and Health Authority (BAHA), the Customs & Excise Department and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. Topics included Standards , Export Procedures, Trade Agreement Opportunities and Sanitary & Phyto-Sanitary Measures among many others.

EXPORTBelize provides customized needs based services in the areas of export development and promotion. The unit’s role is to encourage competitiveness of local businesses and to promote their products and services regionally and internationally by:

  • Supporting exporters with development promotion that will facilitate maximizing market opportunities in unison with trade agreements;
  • Collaborating with exporters in the promotion of their products and services locally, regionally and internationally;
  • Offering specialized business development services and mentoring;
  • Providing exporters with access to finance and research on product/services that can be capitalized.

The third Trade Clinic is scheduled for  July 6th in San Ignacio with venue to be determined at a later date.
