March 5, 2014 – With the opening conference in Belize City, the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) launched its flagship export program, FINPYME ExportPlus, in Belize, in conjunction with the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), IIC’s key partner in Belize.

Apart from the launch, the one-week event will consist of a series of trainings on resources and tools to improve the export competitiveness and capacities of over 35 local exporters. The trainings will be in the export development areas of certification, operations, and management processes:

  • Certification Processes- includes sanitation, health & packaging, quality etc.
  • Operational Processes- includes production chains, quality control, and logistics
  • Managerial Processes- marketing, strategic planning, foreign sales etc.

A representative from the Trade and Economic Counselor of the Wallonia Region of Belgium, sponsor of the FINPYME ExportPlus program in Belize, has noted:

“It give us great pleasure and satisfaction to extend our help and support to the [SMEs] of Belize. Based on our past experiences in Haiti and Panama, the expertise of our consultants, and our excellent collaboration with the IIC, I am convinced that all together we will reach our main goal of improving the efficiency of Belizean SMEs, and hence their international sales.” (Mr. Bernard Geenen, Trade and Economic Counselor of the Wallonia Region)

Since the inception of the FINPYME ExportPlus program in 2009 it has reached 16 countries in the hemisphere. The IIC comes with more than US$4.6 million to invest in this technical assistance program, helping SMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean become more competitive and improve their export capacity.

The launch of the program is being held today Wednesday, March 5th, 2014 at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza, Toucan Hall in Belize City commencing at 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. We hereby extend invitation to media houses, as this is the perfect opportunity to engage coordinators of the program and view the prospectus being offered to local entrepreneurs and enterprises to access global opportunities.
