Many small businesses follow the philosophy of “it’s too expensive to do marketing”, choosing instead to put marketing on the backburner until that elusive day arrives when they may actually have some spare time to think about it. Unfortunately for most small business operators, that day rarely comes. In cases where budgets are low, sales are stagnant or where you have too many ideas that you don’t know where to begin, then the marketing planning process helps you to focus your time and resources on where it will count.
The Small Business Development Center (SBDCBelize) is a branch of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), which is a statutory body of the Government of Belize. SBDCBelize provides customized needs-based services, to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, in order to facilitate competitiveness and export readiness. In order to create economic prosperity through entrepreneurial development, business innovation, and competitiveness, SBDCBelize offers training services in a workshop format. For example, the Marketing and Sales Workshop focuses on developing Marketing as a fantastic weapon for nurturing clients businesses whether it be a new business or and existing one.
Marketing’s primary function in most small businesses is to generate more sales. Commonly, this could be through either selling more to current customers or increasing the number of customers. In the Marketing and Sales workshop help yesterday August 14, 2013, participants were able to focus on key marketing topics of, Branding, Labeling, Packaging and Sales. Along with the help of GraceKennedy (Belize) Limited, one of Belize’s major food and beverage distributor, participants were able to see the importance Branding plays in Marketing.
