October 10th, 2012– Throughout the course of the past three months, Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) have been facilitating an intensive consultancy, geared towards the creation of a national strategy to develop Medical Tourism in Belize. To reiterate, component two (2) of BELTRAIDE’s Compete Caribbean Project, required the identification of two priority sectors for investment. One of the identified priority sectors was Medical Tourism, and there is certainly great potential for this industry to contribute to economic development through creation of employment, whilst contributing to our Gross Domestic Product.

In early September 2012, a second workshop was held on Medical Tourism, which captured an array of audience, from tour operators to health care providers, clearly indicating receptiveness of this emerging sector.

A final Medical Tourism Workshop was held on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the House of Culture in Belize City, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30p.m.

Mr. Massimo Manzi, the Project’s Consultant, will be discussing:

  • A draft of the Sector Strategy
  • Recommendations for the implementation of the sector strategy
  • Quality assessment
  • Industry competitiveness
  • Promotion and marketing of the sector
