Standard for Public Comments: Specification for Ketchup


The Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS) wishes to notify the relevant stakeholders and the general public that the standard “Specification for Ketchup” is being developed by the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ). The draft standard “Specification for Ketchup” is out for public comments and inputs. Stakeholders are asked to note, on approval of the standard by COTED, the BBS will adopt the same as a national standard. The deadline for submission of comments to the Bureau of Standards is October 5th, 2012. The standard is also available on request from the BBS office. BELTRAIDE, in partnership with ITVET, DFC, and Belize City Council, is pleased to announce the opening of the Small Business Development Centre (SBDC) in November, 2012. The SBDC Belize is specially targeting the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME), which are key contributors to employment and Belize GDP.  Its role is to enhance competitiveness of Belizean businesses by offering (1) focused capacity building, 2) supports entrepreneurship, and 3) specialized business development services, mentoring, and incubation support. The Centre will be located at the ITVET campus in Belize City.

As a result, BELTRAIDE is seeking two (2) qualified persons to fill the posts of:

 (1) Receptionist/Administrative Assistant

  • Minimum of Associate’s Degree in Business or related field.
  • Minimum of one year in business support with experience in working with the MSME sector.
  • Second language would be an asset (preferably Spanish).
  • Computer literate in most Microsoft applications.
  • Provides quality customer service and responds to inquires about the SBDC Belize services.
  • Maintain confidentially at all times especially on clients records.
  • Provide logistics support, such as preparing travel documents and reimbursements.
  • Oversee daily operating activities such as procurements and appointments.
  • Collaborate with counsellors in developing new processes such as client in-take and follow-up processes.
  • Assist counsellors in data collection.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills, including presentation skills.

(2)  Junior Counsellor

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field.
  • Minimum of one year in business support with experience in working with the MSME sector.
  • Second language would be an asset (preferably Spanish).
  • Computer literate in most Microsoft applications.
  • Provide advisory services focused on creating economic impact.
  • Manage special projects and offer services in their assigned locations.
  • Promote the SBDC Belize services within the community and to potential clients.
  • Document client and training activities in WebCAT software.
  • Assist with training events and other related functions.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills, including presentation skills.

The Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS) wishes to notify the relevant stakeholders and the general public that the standard “Specification for Cement” is being developed by the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ). The draft standard “Specification for Cement” is out for public comments and inputs. Stakeholders are asked to note, on approval of the standard by COTED, the BBS will adopt the same as a national standard. The deadline for submission of comments to the Bureau of Standards is October 19th, 2012.

CALL FOR EXHIBITORS AT CAYO’S ANNUAL ART COLLECTION EXHIBITION 2012


The San Ignacio & Santa Elena  House of Culture invites all  artists residing in the Cayo district to participate in the Cayo Art Collection Exhibit 2012. The exhibition will  be open on 19th October 2012, and it will run through to November 15th, at the San Ignacio & Santa Elena House of Culture.

This exhibit is open to all artists with Original Art work, preferably those residing in the Cayo District. It will comprise of all forms of art, including drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, ceramics, etc. All arts should have a maximum height or weight of  42 inches, and two pieces may be entered.
