PRESS RELEASE
July 19, 2012– Approximately one hundred and twenty food exporters from across Meso America and Haiti gathered in Antigua, Guatemala, to participate in the fourth annual Latin American Caribbean (LAC) Flavors food show, held from July 12th -13th , 2012. Belize was present at this food show, with representatives from Paradise Shrimp Farm, and The Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), through the sponsorship of the Inter-American Development Bank.
A Buyer-Seller Meeting provided technical support to attendees by incorporating a newly developed “matchmaking” system. This system allowed the small and medium sized producers of organic fruits, vegetables, sea food and processed goods to collaborate with food importing firms from Canada, U.S., China, South Korea, and Japan, who have special interest in purchasing food items, from the participating suppliers.
As a result of participating in this show, connections were developed with various distributors and buyers from Latin and North America. Generally, there was prominent interest in the importation of Belizean papayas, mangoes, melons, bananas, oranges and sour saps from Belize. There were other contact leads geared towards manufacturers of bottles and packaging materials.
